It had been rumoured for months, but yesterday at Star Wars Celebration, Lucasfilm Chief Creative Officer Dave Filoni, confirmed that Rory McCann will be the Actor to take over the role of Baylan Skoll from the late Ray Stevenson in Ahsoka, Season 2.
Ray Stevenson passed away May 21st 2023- Before Season 1 of Ahsoka was aired, meaning he sadly never saw the positive reception that his performance as Baylan Skoll received.
Filoni spoke with Rosario Dawson, Jon Favreau and Hayden Christensen, looking back at Season 1 of the show and offering insights to what may lay ahead in Season 2.
Earlier in the Panel, Filoni had spoken of the tragic loss of Stevenson.
“However big a loss you think it is, it’s bigger” he said, tearfully.
Filoni had worked with Stevenson on both animated and live action Star Wars projects previously.
McCann’s appearance as Skoll was revealed in the form of costume test photos. McCann looks the part with his strong beard , stoic look and burning orange lightsaber.
Rory McCann was a friend and colleague of Ray Stevenson, which will assumedly add a personal dimension to the role for McCann, who will undoubtedly want to do his late friend’s memory proud.
Filoni described McCann as a “big man, with a big heart” also commenting that McCann’s focus was “Not letting Ray down”
Ahsoka Season 2 starts filming next week in the United Kingdom and is expected to release in late 2026.
